Project LifeSaver

Presentation of $1500 check for Project LifeSaver to purchase tracking bracelets for Mercer County residents with Alzheimer's or Autism. The Laughter Club, run by Marie Bethke, is sponsored by Hearts to Hearts and is a stress management technique that benefits body, mind and soul through the healing properties of laughter.

Massage Therapy” at Wellness Center

Heart to Hearts is pleased to offer massage therapy sessions. Guaranteed 1 1/2 to 2 hour full body customized massage utilizing techniques such as: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Range of Motion, and Stretching will be offered by a fully certified practitioner who is also certified in the massage of cancer and hospice patients. Yoga for the Healthy Heart

We offer a variety of yoga classes at the Wellness Center taught by Trish Lowerre, of the Soma Center, a holistic health care center. Call to register (609) 689-3131.

Laughter From The Heart (Therapeutic Laughter) - The first Monday of each month at 6pm you can join us for some fun, laughter and exercise to prevent "hardening of the attitudes". Marie Bethke, RN, CLL.

Volunteer Meeting - The first Monday of each month meetings are held at the Wellness Center at 7 PM If you would like to be a volunteer with Heart to Hearts, make a valuable contribution and meet some great people, come join us. For more information, contact Marie Bethke 609-585-3972.

Wellness Day Volunteer Meetings - Committee meetings are held to discuss the event and present reports. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Terry at 609-771-9048.

Programs Offered Exclusively by Heart to Hearts

Wellness Profile - Heart to Hearts, Inc. offers a unique wellness program with its comprehensive wellness evaluation. The evaluation covers personal and family medical history, eating habits, body type and metabolism. Meet with an experienced medical professional to review your individual data and assess risk for certain diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Receive a personal portfolio, which includes nutritional guidelines and fitness recommendations. Consultant: Terry Tucker, RN (609) 689-3131.

Health Portfolio Classes - Learn how to build your personal medical portfolio! Open to both men and women the classes review the importance of keeping accurate medical and health records, how to make your visits to your health care provider more effective and how to put a personal portfolio binder together. Weight Management

Obesity is one of the most critical health issues facing Americans today. This program focuses on the steps necessary to lose weight, keep it off and maintain a healthy lifestyle. “Tea with Terry” will be held on Thursday July 24th at the California Grill in Flemington for new and prospective members of Heart to Hearts. You are invited to join us and learn more about our organization while enjoying a pleasant evening with good company. Feel free to eat dinner during our discussion. Dessert will be provided by Heart to Hearts. 6 pm to 8 pm

Past Events

Vitamins and Supplement Class – March 5th at 7PM. This new class on the benefits of vitamins and minerals will be held at the Wellness Center at 7pm. You will learn how to identify natural food sources, and the proper use of vitamins and supplements to fulfill your daily nutritional requirements. “Good Carbs ..Better Carbs” on February 27th at 7PM at Project Freedom Community Center, Lawrenceville. The program will be taught by Amy Szumel, RN, CDE, a diabetic educator and is being sponsored by Roche Pharmaceutical. Call to register 771-9048. Light refreshments provided.

Diabetes Seminar

Was held on March 14th, 2007 at Project Freedom Community Center in Lawrenceville. If you or a family member have diabetes or are at risk for this disease that is fast reaching epidemic proportions, you can benefit from this class. Project Freedom Wellness Program

In partnership with Project Freedom, an independent residence for persons with disabilities in Lawrence, N.J. Heart to Hearts conducted a weekly wellness program. The state funded program offered classes in Nutrition, Energy Exercise, Conflict Management, Chair Massages and Laughter Therapy. Classes were offered Monday through Friday at the Project Freedom Community Center at 1 Project Freedom Blvd., Lawrence. All persons with disabilities who are residents of Mercer County were welcome to attend any or all of the classes. Contact Project Freedom at 609- 278-0075 for additional information.

What You Need to Know About Alzheimer’s - Heart to Hearts, Inc. presented an important community program about an illness which can affect all family members - “What You Need to Know About Alzheimer’s.” It was held March 30th at the Lawrence Township Public Library. Our keynote speaker was Dr. Nasir Shaikh, a board certified physician who practices at the Pennington Medical facility and is affiliated with the University Medical Center of Princeton.

He was followed by Laura Holly-Dierbach, Vice President, Programs and Services of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater New Jersey Chapter. She spoke on services provided by the Alzheimer’s Association and community resources available to caregivers.

Mary Lou Gola also spoke movingly about the personal face of Alzheimer’s based on her experiences with her mother. She has written about caring for an Alzheimer’s patient in her book “WooHoo, Here I am!
